Had a nice meal here. It was late at night and we were gratefully invited in. Whilst price slightly high we could understand given how late we were eating at night. The lady owner served us nicely and our food came out quite quickly. The ambience is not the best though. Thanks for the yum food.

I love this place, it's been an establishment of Chinatown since 1975, the food is fantastic, the service is friendly & the staff have a great sense of humour. They're open late which is great for that late night catch-up with friends & nothing is too much trouble. Very enjoyable experience. I recommend the crispy chicken with chilli & ginger, sizzling lamb, pork spring rolls & combination rice

On holiday from Cairns but we lived in Sydney for years and this place was one of our favourite restaurants. We came back for a nostalgic visit and nothing had changed except the prices. Good food in an older restaurant. The place was busy and the staff were run off their feet but it was still an enjoyable experience. Sure, prices were a little over the top but not exorbitant. The old woman that everyone complains about was fine, good to see her again. Her brusque manner just adds to the charm.

It was December 25, so there were limited options. They listed a $3.00 holiday surcharge. I had the vegetable spring rolls, which were lovely, vegetable dumplings, Laksa and tea. Everything was fresh and hot, but the laksa had no coconut milk, more a spicy tomato soup. Some of the sizzling plates coming down to other tables looked really interesting, however, no one seemed too excited by their food All of the food comes from upstairs which used to be an elegant banquet hall. The bill did not seem to match what I ordered and seemed about 30% higher than it should have. Since it was a holiday, I didn’t question or argue as it was not important to me. Overall, I would not return unless there was no other choices. The stairs leading up to the bathrooms were filled with boxes of take out containers and supplies. Toilets were in poor repair, and needed cleaning.

Down in Chinatown New Tai Yuen has been there since 1975. Still serving great Chinese food. You can dine outside, inside or upstairs in the beautiful dining hall. Staff are attentive and the food tastes great. Grab a beer or wine and try some of their specials. The pork in honey and black pepper was delicious.
