Grandma's Tamales Restaurante

Worst experience in Bakersfield. Place is too big to fail and you will experience that through poor service with an attitude and cheap food remotely resembling Hispanic style. Ordered Chile Relleno Plate, Nachos and tamales. After a 20 minute wait was told we don’t have tamales you ordered and you can take what we have left. Nachos came with half ingredients missing as well as chile relleno. When I notified the girl at the counter she told me that my order does not come with ingredients on the menu… after arguing for 5 minutes in front of everyone, customers who overheard the argument confirmed that menu items have missing ingredients clearly visible but even after that the girl at the counter refused to acknowledge it. I was told to “shut up and eat my food” Should of smacked her across her mouth with a plate of garbage they serve here.

Ordered the chilaqules with green sauce, it tasted sour, the rice and beans weren't good either. The breakfast burrito with all the meats is good, though. Michelada was also not too flavorful.

First time here and wasn’t sure what to do when I walked in, took a minute and found you order at front counter then sit. They then will call out your order. I ordered chorizo con huevos, it comes with rice, beans and choice of tortillas. Be sure and order the hand-home-made corn tortillas, they are delicious. Food was very good, coffee was fresh. They get pretty busy here, sadly I found the two employees I had contact with were a little standoffish, not sure why.

Update: The menudo was a miss the last time I went. Try the location at California and Union. They have good menudo with delicious handmade tortillas. The serving is large. The tamales are a hit and miss, but they are big. For dine-in, you order first, then they call your number. Service is good, but weekends are very busy.

Very good food, friendly employees. Does get very packed on Sundays, so be prepared if you want a table to sit. Only thing I would change but understand why they probably don't is have servers for table you must order when you walk in.
