Stopped for a drink en route during our travels up north and loved this pub. Picturesque location, friendly staff and friendly locals, toilets are clean, perfect for a quiet drink by the canal and a little stroll back and forth with the dog. Didn't eat so can't rate the food but what others had looked good!
Typical English pub w comfort food, no new age pub grub w hoisin sauce n wasabe dressing. Steak n kidney pie was yummy. Dessert sponge w treacle was excellent n trifle too.
The staff managed to squeeze us in on mother's Day without a booking, for a delicious and hearty (and great value!) home made roast and dessert. Really welcoming and friendly staff and a great location on the canal. Clearly popular with locals, simply a great pub!
The Cross Keys is a lovely warm, welcoming pub. I used to come here as a child with my family as we lived near-by. It hasn't changed much. It's lovely to sit out the front and watch the barges go by on the canal. They have a great size beer garden which is wonderful for families. All in all a fab traction pub.
