I got the Ruben sandwich with French fries and my wife got the fisherman’s platter. The food was very good! We arrived on Monday Sept 22nd around 6 pm and there was only one parking space open which we got! I had a good feeling about our experience before we even got inside! And I was right! Brittany who has worked there for about 5 years was our server. She did an excellent job! Everyone was busy because the place was packed. but we did find a booth without having to wait and we’re waited on in a timely manner. Cox Family Restaurant is worth the drive if you are anywhere nearby.
This is a wonderful family diner. They have a set menu and also a whiteboard menu that changes daily. Their breakfast selection looked wonderful, and I was told they have a good morning crowd. The waitresses were friendly. The atmosphere and food was spot on for a diner. Their prices were very reasonable. The first night, we both ordered the fisherman's platter. It comes fried and included 2 or 3 scallops, 2 oysters, and 5 shrimp along with the flounder. I think it was flounder. Oh, it also had a few clam strips. I think mine were the bottom of the bag, but my husband's seemed ok, a little bigger than mine. We were given a basket of delicious hush puppies. I believe we could have had rolls instead. The next day, our friends took us out to lunch (here). I got the house salad, Our friends loved their fried chicken livers and fried gizzards. We will definitely go back when we are in the area.
Pulled in and packed lot - good for you, means your food is most likely good. Found a spot and looked around, seemed to be too busy to be handicap friendly as I was told when I called before we even went there. I was assured it was handicapped accessible. My lunch mate walked in to see if I could get in and eat and be comfortable - that’s a huge NO! I hadn’t been out to eat since my diagnosis and I just wanted a nice lunch and not at a chain. That wasn’t going to happen. Lunch mate couldn’t get in the place let alone find a seat for me to put my wheelchair. Needless to say we pulled out and went to Patrons who had me in and seated in less than a minute while also busy. I wanted to give a good review to Cox’s but do not tell me your handicap friendly when you’re obviously not! Especially when I called to be sure, I’d rather have heard a no. So while the food may be good, the atmosphere and accessibility are important as well and needless to say I won’t be back to review the actual food.
So excited to find this gem! It reminds me of an old school diner. Lots to choose from on the menu and daily specials on the board which include two sides, hushpuppies or bread and a dessert! The prices are great and portions are generous. The space is comfy like being in Grandma's kitchen and the service was outstanding ???? I really loved my first experience here and cannot wait to return!! Please go see for yourself.
My wife and I stopped here for a lunch based on reviews. This is a great old style diner with lots of choices. They had 15+ protein choices ranging from chicken salad to crab cakes and many things in between. I had crab cakes with a salad and my wife had the chicken salad with okra and slaw. The crabs were a steal at $15 and half the price of what I am used to at our home base in the Emerald Coast. I also especially enjoy the hush puppies. They were crisp, light, and sweet with no greasing. My wife gave her chicken salad meal a +10. Though we are rarely in Moorehead City this is the first place i would stop for lunch or breakfast.
