While traveling we wanted to support local businesses instead of chains so we chose Pop's BBQ for this stop. It's a quiet place in a small town just a few miles from the interstate. The service was fast and friendly. The chairs were sturdy and comfortable. The one server was running the whole front of house and doing a great job. The fried okra, onion rings and fries were plentiful and fried to perfection. The burger was juicy, flavorful and grilled exactly the way I wanted. The diced BBQ was flavorful and juicy. The potato salad is southern style with good flavor and consistency. The parking lot is easy to enter and exit in a personal sized vehicle. Parking a large RV or trailer might be a bit difficult depending on how busy they are. There was a small surcharge when we used our card instead of paying cash but it literally covered the transaction fee, which is money not staying in the local community so we didn't mind. We'll stop here again if we get the chance to.
The staff recommended the fish on Friday night. It was ok, not a lot of flavor. Also had a double cheese burger. The bun was delicious, like home made. Burger wasn't very flavorful and a bit greasy. I wish we had tried more of their home made sides. We were just passing through so if you stop, be sure to ask for their specialties.
Food was delicious, portions were nice sized, I had the 10 piece jumbo shrimp dinner. Our waitress(Hailey) was very friendly and attentive. I had a taste of my husband's baby back ribs and they were cooked perfectly. There was a lot of meat on the bone, it was tender and hardly any fat at all on them. Both meals were done very well. Great presentation and flavor..
Pop's is a good place to take the family on a budget. The food is good and the environment is average. Service is on par with other local dine-ins - depending in your waiter/waitress. I recommend the cheeseburgers. My wife enjoys the fish sandwiches on fresh baked bread.
My fried catfish was delicious. I like this place so much that I had business in town and ate here both days. They make, bake and slice their own bread! It is delicious! If you are ever that way try to grab a loaf!
