Had breakfast on Friday. Had two egg omelette with bacon cheese and spinach. Home fries with peppers and onions. Omelette was very good and large. The home fries were very creamy almost thick. I couldn't identify what gave them such a creamy texture. A little weird but I ate them. Wait staff was very attentive and friendly. Menu says under new ownership. Seems like the quality is good.
This was my first and I guess last time at this diner. The food quality was fine, but the service was poor. We waited for about half an hour after placing the order, had to chase after the waitress lady for coffee/pancake syrup/missing parts of my burger. I ordered a cheeseburger that came with no lettuce and tomato. It took 10 min for the waitress to get to kitchen, and as a result she brought me a slice of tomato and lettuce missing from my 13 dollars dry burger on a plate. We were quite upset because of very difficult communication and poor service quality.
Pros: service, decor and vibe, location and transportation options, kale salad with steak. Cons: prices and somewhat limited menu. Food: - Brussels Sprouts dish was subpar (undercooked and not flavorful). - Kale Salad with steak: totally worth it - Mozzarella Sticks: tasty, but only four sticks for $13 is low value for money.
***Updated below on 9/13/23*** We’re so sad that we heard that they are bankrupt… Atmosphere 5 Food 5 Service 4 —————————————————— We visited after new management taking over and it was still same menu so I thought they don’t change the menu. But second visit on 9/13/23, they renewed menu and we’re pretty sad that THEY DO NOT HAVE GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS ANYMORE… It’s not a classic diner anymore. Their menu is now downsized a lot. They only have some apps, all day breakfast, entree, sandwiches, salad. NO MORE classic diner pasta, Mexican choices and Italian, etc. I assume they pick popular staff to make it easy, standard for operation wise. Also, they don’t have liquor anymore (assume they are still waiting for a new license or never know). And no more shakes. Sad. Don’t take it wrong, it’s just sad it not a classic diner anymore and they steer their style to new modern. As we know that previous management was bankrupted, it’s hard to operate with recent price and amount, but they are now a little pricy I felt for me. Cobb Salad was 2/3 size now and served on fancy black plate and cost $26. Truffle fries (as described “crispy”) was crispy but half burnt and truffle flavor was so subtle but sauce comes on the side was so tasty. (Photo 6,7) Servers were seems new and they don’t really know the idea of “service” yet so the lady in the front try to teach them how to serve and buss from the beginning. I don’t think management really know what people who come here expect. I’ll come back to see how’s the classic items going.
Flying in from Europe with an 11 year old you will hit some heavy jet lag. Waking up at 5am we wanted a classic diner experience to kick of our NYC experience. Apparently this place is under new management but everything seemed perfect and authentic. Our waiter Evelyn was a sweetheart, my son had two eggs any style and I had the Brooklyn egg sandwich and lots of coffee. All perfect. Recommended.
