Fish & Shrimp Diner

Fish & Shrimp Diner came highly recommended from some shop owners just down the street. I'm sure glad we listened to them because this is some of the best seafood I've had in a long, long time. This unexpected gem of a restaurant has fantastic food, a welcoming atmosphere and super friendly staff. Do yourself a favor and order the red beans & rice - holy cow. Oh and don't forget to try a fried pie, the coconut is ridiculously good. High five to our waitress Beth for making it into a great Sunday dinner.

Stopped in for dinner. Was immediately greeted and sat by our friendly waitress. I got fried shrimp and oysters and added a crab cake. Shrimp was hand battered and cooked perfectly. Oysters were good. The crab cake had visible crab in it, not just breading. The red beans and rice were so good we ended up getting an extra to go. Same with the hush puppies. He got fried fish and shrimp. The catfish was clean and delicious. The coleslaw was creamy and crisp. Great service. Super clean restaurant. Would definitely go back.

We're from out of town and found this place by looking at reviews. The food was fantastic. I had the BEST chicken livers I've EVER had...very light and tender and crunchy with just the right seasoning (although the waitress was surprised when I asked for shrimp cocktail sauce for them). My husband had the whole catfish and said it was excellent. We started with fried green tomatoes and they were delicious. The sides were also wonderful. We just wish we had this place closer to home so we could eat here often.

We came the first time after hearing that there is an incredible off menu Gumbo. It was a little hot, but it’s Gumbo. It was so good we went back three nights in a row. This Gumbo is something that will win awards. The chef is in another league. His tartar sauce is the best I’ve ever had and you won’t find a better red beans and rice in Nawlins. Of course his catfish is absolutely perfect. What I like is that so many little things are outstanding and reflect that the chef loves what he does. I can’t tell you how amazing it is to find this place in Kansas. The service was outstanding and Beth showed up apologizing for any delay and provided great service. She anticipated every need and like the chef, loves serving people. She also lit up talking about various items on the menu and she was right about everything. She served us twice and Soleil did a great job too. The atmosphere isn’t bad, it’s just too simple for a chef with this kind of talent. I come once a year and I’m already thinking about next year. Thanks chef Victor for loving what you do and making your place so exceptional.
