Diamond S is a cultural anomaly in Bay City, and the meaning behind the S may surprise you. The S can stand for Service, which was exceptional. There's no denying that the service here was really good. Annie is a wonderful person, she answered all of our questions in a kind and thoughtful manner, so much so that she left a lasting impression on both me and my partner. The S, unfortunately, doesn't stand for Scrumptious. My chicken fried steak was unremarkable in every way, the green beans were bland. My partner's steak fingers looked and tasted like petrified t*rds. We both enjoyed the mash potatoes and gravy, though! Later on we tried a cinnamon roll and it was probably the worst cinnamon roll we ever had; instead of a soft and chewy texture, it had this cornbread profile reminiscent of stale bread. The S might have one final interpretation, though. From what I observed during my time there, the citizens of Bay City seem to really value this diner. The place was packed, just full of people, especially the elderly. Diamond S seems to bring a lot of family-oriented, small town comfort in its existence, it's withstood the test of time to deliver an unexplainable warmth. It's a Spirited family diner. If you lived in this city all your life, maybe you'll love this little diner. If you're a stranger from out of town like myself (or a foodie), you may find yourself disappointed in the food while trying to resist the rustic charm that may permeate throughout.
This was my first time here. I really enjoyed it!! The sweet tea was wonderful! ( Up there with and past McDonald's ) The employees were down to earth, friendly, warm welcoming, quick, and worked well with each other. It was clean and very comfortable. The food was HOT and wonderful!! The kitchen staff did a fantastic job on my meal!! I would recommend eating here too everyone! Great menu with a variety of meals at that. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality and great service and fulfilling hot plated meal!!
This is honestly my wife's favorite place in town to eat in Bay City. It's a nice little sit down restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And they have a drive thru. You don't see that combination very often. You can get an All-American breakfast you can get a hamburger or you can go Tex-Mex and get taco salad and stuff like that. it's got a pretty nice variety on their menu
The first time I went their power was out so I came back another day and missed breakfast by a minute(they stop serving breakfast at 10:30am). I’m glad I decided to come back for a third try because the omelette was delicious and the home fries were some of the best I’ve ever had. Crunchy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. Highly recommend it and will definitely be back.
I wasn't expecting cafeteria style but I loved it! I had coffee, 1 biscuit with sausage gravy and grits. It was all delicious and they brought it to my table. $5. Staff was super friendly. I'll be back.
