Well, I guess Lamar has a restaurant that compares to it's football team. When you get out the bigger cities in Missouri like Springfield, St. Louis, KC, or even Joplin, you never know what you're going to get. In Lamar, you get Tractors BBQ and Grill. I had the Pulled Pork and Brisket sandwich and fries. Both meats were top notch. My test for smoked meats is, do you need sauce? In Tractors BBQ's case, you don't! I'm not in that area much. But when I am, I'm headed straight to Tractors!
UPDATE: 10/28/2022. I stopped in after 8 PM and got my meal to go even though I had time to eat it there. The young woman heard me say I had a room at the motel, so she asked if I needed utensils for the food. I like that kind of attention to detail and thoughtful service. ***** My husband and I were traveling South a different way than we usually go. We stayed at the hotel off this exit. The staff there told us about Tractor's. Our server was wonderful, and we got to talk to her and other staff because it was late and most people had eaten and gone. Our server recommended the Big Baler and Little Baler. So, even though it sounded like it would be a mistake, it wasn't. Each offering, from the potato, meat, baked beans, and coleslaw kept their distinct flavor. Our ticket for the two balers and two drinks was less than $20.00! We liked this restaurant so much, we came back home the same way. And, the dessert both times was wonderful!
First time eating here. We were able to get seat right away. Waitress was extremely friendly & very helpful. 1 of us got the French Dip... it was an AMAZING sandwich & got potato chips, which were delicious! I got the Philly Cheese & it was a AWESOME sandwich... & got the fries, which were delicious! This was a phenomenal lunch.
Driving through and dinner was so good the first night that we stayed another day so we could go again for lunch the next day. Great service both times. Great pulled pork, burnt ends, sausage, chicken strips, and smoked turkey. Sauces are at the table and are all delicious. We're from up north, so I wasn't used to the potato salad as it wasn't tangy with mustard or pickles. BBQ beans were quite zesty, and husband loved them. The buns are HEAVENLY, and you should eat them right away because they're warm and soooo fresh when you get them. Even the pies were perfection - husband got strawberry rhubarb, which was neither too tart nor too sweet. Lemon meringue had like 4 inches of meringue, and the lemon part was so lemony! Hearts for eyes about this place, highly recommend!
This is an old gas station/convenient store turned full on restaurant and bar. Totally cool atmosphere, great staff, and really good food. From breakfast to dinner, you have your choice. Ready for a drink to close out the day, step over to the bar side, and unwind. What a gem to find on the way to Michigan.
