South Bay’s best-kept secret. This place is always a vibe. Whether it’s locals singing karaoke or live music from local bands, there’s always something happening. I’ve lived in the South Bay for 8 years, and this has consistently been my go-to spot. Brandy is hands down my favorite bartender—I’ll come in specifically when I know she’s working. One of the owners, Brynn, also makes a star appearance behind the bar from time to time, and I love stopping in when she’s bartending as well. If I could give this place 10 stars, I absolutely would.
I've lived in the neighborhood for 35 plus years and never thought I would step foot inside Salty Dog bar. Being a non frequent drinker, hole-in-the wall bars just never caught my fancy. And, only then will I entertain a night out unless I'm with the right group of people. I've been to this bar several times now and it's been nothing but good old fashion fun. You can be yourself and no one bothers you. It's not crazy crowded, at least when I've been there during the weekdays. I can actually find a seat at the bar or just lounge in the back area on a couch. There are also tables and chairs to choose from. There has been a DJ, live band, karaoke or just plain music jammin. The highlight for me: the bar tenders ! They were attentive and friendly. Shout out to Justin and I forgot young looking female bartender's name. Shout out to her too This bar may not be as lit and inviting looking from the outside, don't judge. Step inside, give it a try ???????? Oh and see how many frogs you can find around the bar ...I counted about 15 plus.
The Pros: The band playing on new years eve was awesome. The Cons: a long wait to get a drink as there is only one person tending bar most of the time. The owner makes the rounds greeting the locals and helps a little at the bar. Last call comes, make sure you hold on to your drink as the staff goes around picking up drinks from tables and taking them away from customers; I saw this happen to two separate girls. Night got worse towards the end. While waiting outside for a LIFT after the new years celebration, some guys got into an argument, a couple of girls got involved trying to calm the situation. The bar owner walked by and started insulting the girls that were trying to deescalate the situation. A bar owner insulting patrons by calling them Chihuahua, or horse. And then insulting them by accusing them of solicitation, is not only disrespectful but also shows a lack of professionalism. This was the second and last time I spend money at this hole in the wall.
Went for Sunday karaoke on multiple occasions and it's just bad. Sound is good. KJ is on YouTube 100% of the time. And don't expect to get called up unless you tip. Only regulars that come weekly will get called up. Waited 2hrs and watch the same 3 ppl sing over and over again. I won't waste my time again. And I'll spare you from wasting your money. If you wanna sing, go elsewhere. Across the street has way better karaoke
Went here only to see 2 of my friends play in their bands. That part and all the people around us were great. The male bartender, great. The problem came when the female bartender gave us our tab and we were overcharged. Asked to see an itemized list and we were charged for 3 beers we did not order. Female bartender tried to argue with us that we did and went back and forth with us until she waived us off. Was very rude for no reason when we were simply correcting the mistake because who's paying for something they didn't order?
