We stopped by for dinner while in town on a work trip since it was conveniently located near our hotel. The service was great--we were seated right away and had just the right amount of time to look over the menu and order drinks and food. The restaurant offers a solid selection of classic Mexican dishes. As soon as we sat down, we were served complimentary chips and salsa. We also added cheese dip and chunky guacamole to start. The cheese dip was a bit watery, which made it tricky to scoop, but it still had good flavor. The chunky guacamole was made with big pieces of avocado, onion, and tomato, all topped with lime juice--simple and fresh. I ordered the Carne Asada Tacos, which came with a side of salsa. They were slightly dry but still tasty. Overall, it's a solid spot for Mexican food if you're visiting Carrollton.
We stop at the Donkey every time we come to Carrollton to visit our buddy Mark. It’s always great food and service. Waiter this visit was a pleasure to deal with. He was very personable and funny.
This is hands down the best Mexican restaurant in this city! I always come here and I'm greeted by these nice employees and waitresses. They made sure everything was right for me before leaving happy. I could also tell you that this place is also sanitized, and the place is kept clean most of the time. The chips, they're always a hit to me. I love the free chips they pass around whenever I come to this restaurant! I ordered myself a drink and a meal that was called "Torta". The torta was very tasty and delicious too, and it also had a decent amount of flavor there. The fries were golden crispy and were a hit. They also checked back with us for any refills or if there was something wrong with my experience. The prices displayed in the menu were pretty reasonable, and the bathroom was not filthy, instead being cleaned. Overall there were no problems that happened here. Now if you're looking for some authentic and tasty Mexican food around Carrollton, run; don't walk to this location. They'll make sure to get everything ready and give you the best Mexican food! I will still be returning to this restaurant.
The service and atmosphere are what you'd expect from a small average restaurant. The food was disappointing. I ordered a taco salad. It was supposed to come with tomatoes. It came with half a thin slice, so I'm not sure why the menu made it seem like there might be plural tomatoes. It was healed with lettuce and the bottom was mostly beans. If you are hoping for a chicken taco salad where you can taste the chicken and don't have to hunt for it, this is not the place.
It was our first time eating at The Donkey. The margaritas were very sweet, I had my doubts if any Tequila was added. We ordered shots and poured them in our drinks and they were fine after that. The server acted uninterested in serving us and more interested in talking up front. He also could not speak good English. The salsa was bland. The chicken in my enchilada and my wife’s taco salad were so salty that we could NOT eat it. The enchilada tortillas were chewy like they were microwaved. The Donkey is possibly the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever been to.
