This is hands down the best place in Orland for yummy food. The people that own and run it are fabulous and so kind. Hello coming in and thank you going out. The lady that takes your order is funny and always has something nice to say regardless if you’re new or returning. Love her! Cozy, clean and although hours are a little odd… I will wait for them to be open before I go any place else! It’s worth the wait. Food is large servings and the cook knows just how to make it the best. Child friendly and always look forward to my next visit. Thanks for all the good they do for our community! Jeff and Nae Ellis ??????????

This little place has the “Best Sandwiches “ Ever! Bread is fresh, nice amount of meat and cheese. Love the service of those that work here. They Always say Thank you as you’re walking out the door . Worth every cent. Catch them when open because if you miss it for the days hours open….it’s your loss! The lady at register… I think (Debbie)? Is the nicest and we are lucky to have this place in our community. Your welcome ????

Never had a bad meal. Burgers are my go to here, meatball sandwiches that will melt your brain, chowder in the cooler months it “delishoes” and even the basic chicken strips and fries are great.

I'm not usually going to out disclaimers on my reviews, but one of necessary to avoid claims of bias. I either won't leave a review or, in this case, will preface it with the fact that I am distantly related to the owners. Now to get the negatives out of the way first as I usually do. First, the good are hard to work around sometimes. M-F with split hours makes it a bit tough to plan meals, but there's a reason: this is a family: run restaurant with limited staff. Sometimes you just can't trust some newbie to handle affairs on the weekends. This is one of the most devastating things about South Street Deli for people who love the food, because... Well, you'll have to stay tuned. Next: no pickle spears with the sandwiches! That's a deli standard! Still, extremely minor complaint. Just get pickle slices and don't complain. Finally, the atmosphere, and why this place gets its lowest rating. It's a reused building that I once worked in. There's only so much you can do with existing spaces and they did a good job, including adding an absolutely beautiful tiki-style bar. The sad truth is that it does feel somewhat hollow. It's very lean and matter-of-fact. Then again, it's an unpretentious place with a family friendly atmosphere that isn't trying to look great because... The food is absolutely incredible. That's right, we're done with the bad and into the meat, which is the good, which is, coincidentally, the meat!! See, I held off reviewing this place due to unfortunate circumstances leading to a slight disappointment. I went in for a Reuben but they were all out of corned beef the first time, so I got a hot pastrami instead. Let me tell you, that disappointment was washed away because the sandwich was killer. We're talking about the most recent visit, though. Absolutely fantastic food. It was worth the wait to get the second best Reuben I've ever had, and it's a VERY close race there. The 1,000 Island is made in-house and it is by far the best 1k Island dressing. The blue cheese? Also in-house. Fantastic, though surprisingly mild! My only fixes to the Reuben would be marbled rye and a bit more mustard. The corned beef and sauerkraut though? Easily brought it up to top tier. The onion rings should never be slept on though. Crispy, pillow batter on onions that just melt as you bite through. I love the taste of onion rings but I hate the slimy piece of onion you have to drag it of its tasty shell in most places. These onion rings are built different though. You take a bite and it's going through with no problem. Easy win here. I did decide to go a little healthy with my side though and got the side salad. Lemme tell you, there is nothing wrong here if you like kidney beans. I don't, but that is a solid salad even with the beans. Hearty and healthy, it was great for a salad, and the croutons didn't have that aged funk a lot do. They were very good. My mom enjoyed her tuna melt, and as usual wasn't able to finish the whole thing but not for lack of trying. It's seriously a lot of food even if you just get a sandwich. We unexpectedly ran into a long time friend and encountered a wonderful family we got to interact with pleasantly. Overall, fantastic food, great experience, very fair pricing, great menu that allows for substitutions, and just a solid place to eat. Service gets a small ding because you do need to order and pay at the counter, but it's worth it. Atmosphere gets a ding for unfortunate unsolvable problems with the location and building. Nothing personal, it's just how that building has always been. Overall, a solid 5/5 for food, friendliness, cleanliness, and overall experience. Your mileage may vary but if you're not checking this place out, you're not experiencing Orland right. Absolute recommend whether you live here or are just passing through and are lucky enough to be here when the place is open. And that's the thing I want to clarify: this isn't some big company with weird hours. It's a family owned and operated eatery with ridiculously good food.
