Nice trails, serene, evidence of pine stumps cut in the logging days and possible pine replants by the CCC.
Trail had not been groomed, but well used. It was above 30 degrees the day we went, so skis kept sticking. Be sure to pack the right wax for the temps. One thing was many people had been out walking trail as well, would be nice to post a trail etiquette sign... please do no walk in groomed ski tracks.
Made the drive over from Elk Rapids to give the trails a try. Fresh snow and quiet trails made for fantastic classic XC skiing. There are a number of short loops so you can dial in the distance that is just right for you. Terrain is flat to rolling and the landscape varies between meadows and pine forests. Parking is right at the trailhead for 6-8 cars. Close enough to Gaylord to grab a drink and meal.
Great little hike. Not to short of a trail and it's great in the fresh snow!
A great place to take the kids & grandkids for a walk near Lake Otsego. Three trail loops that look like a three leaf clover, with each loop a little over a mile.
