I’m from Japan and I’ve missed Japanese style Italian food - this is as close as it gets. Delicious, savory and not too sweet, just good pasta. The uni cream pasta was new to me and delicious. I went with a group of friends and we all tried each others pasta’s, I recommend any of the cream ones or the dish with the seafood and clams!
Ordered the Bacon and mushrooms Japanese style sauce. The meal started with a light salad while I waited for my order. The pasta had a very nice presentation. The noodles were al dente, still somewhat firm to chew on; they absorbed the flavor of the dashi. The shredded seaweed and grated radish were pleasant to mix into the dish too, here again the radish absorbed some of the dashi and bacon fat. The bacon was tender and a good portion of pieces. The mushroom was chewy and aromatic. The general ambiance is very quaint and more Japanese with Italian influences. Fairly quiet though wait times may climb later into the dinner rush.
What we really loved was the food. We got the Mentai, and the Salmon, cream and spinach pasta. ????????My only comment about the Mentai, is that I expected to taste the cod roe a bit more. We also appreciated that they started us off with a complementary side salad and small ciabatta roll. Prices were reasonable. Their $7 dollar white wine was also quite nice. Overall great experience and food, I wasn’t even sad that they don’t have a dessert menu. Mad respect. ???? Vibe was unpretentious and staff were very nice. ???? Total cost for 2 people - $45 before tip
came here for the first time and it wont be my last. Before diving into the pasta, can I just give a major shout out to the chicken gizzard for the appetizer. The gizzards are so tender. it is great on its own, but i tried it with the bread and dipped into the broth/stock....all i have to say is, I died and came back to life. ordered their specialties: Uni pasta and Mantai pasta. both are so delicious. both are creamy and the Uni pasta is a but more cheesy then the Mantai. I am sure there are other reviews rave about these two dishes, and yes they are worth the hype. next time I will order the chicken gizzards again 100%, and interested to try their other pasta dishes!
Pasta e Pasta can get long wait times so use the Yelp app to join the waitlist early. The servers are also really busy with customers so it’s hard to get their attention or their time. Our meal was started with some small salads and bread. The bread is soft and fluffy. The salad felt lame and too sour for my taste. Moving onto the pasta, the Puttanesca was just good, like a tomato sauce pasta with canned fish. Thus, it’s one of the cheapest dishes at the restaurant. The anchovies give a strong fishy taste, but it’s not gross. The uni pasta was discounted at $21 because they ran out of sea urchin to top the dish. Still, it was rich and creamy, though it was missing a bit of texture without the uni.
