Newman's Carryout

The food was edible. I grabbed a couple of calzones and a couple of pizzas. The price was fairly decent but the food has gone downhill over the last year or so. The calzones and pizzas were sitting on the warmer for quite some time. The food was warm at best.

Defiance, OH. I'm hungry. I need gas. Newman's Carryout, home of that once glorious big fish that your grandpa caught, a midwestern landmark. But I wasn't there for fish. I was there for a chicken bacon ranch sub, I just didn't know it. The chicken.. pre-cut rectangular cubes, not pretending to be grilled fresh or hand-carved by a guy named Jeff spelled with a "G". This chicken showed up like, "I came here to soak up ranch and hold this sandwich together, and I'm doing my job.. thank you very much" The bacon? bits. literal bacon bits. Not strips, just bits baby. What else would you expect? This isn't a farmhouse brunch. This is a gas station back counter next to the monster energy fridge... and that's part of the magic. Finished with thinly wrapped crinkly aluminum foil warm to the touch and vaguely greasy.. you already know..... bro. It's a convenient store with lottery tickets and 6 kinds of beef jerky, but if you approach it with reverance.. and maybe a box of lemonheads and a dr. pepper.. this CBR sub might just be the finest gas station meal you've ever had. Final verdict: 5 stars. Long live Newman's. Long live the big fish.

I overheard cashier telling customer wouldn't accept gas voucher. When customer left she spoke gossipped harshly with another customer loud for me to hear. On my way out could see her crying in her vehicle. A simple phone call to the agency by the cashier would have cleared it up. Hope she is never treated in such regard

Told me card machine was down. Asked me to pay cash but the card machine clearly worked. Because it was charged. So essentially, I paid twice. When I talked to person at register.
