This is one of my favorite beaches of all time. It has it all, gorgeous views, a lighthouse, cliffs in the distance, sand and amazing rocks! We went in mid August and the weather was just perfect- around 75 degrees and the lake was so calm! We found so many good rocks. There is plenty of parking. There are porta potties by the parking area. No changing rooms. I would consider this a rustic park.
Beautiful beach in a quaint town. The beach is quiet and clean. Not crowded. Stores, restaurants, pubs, and gas are all within walking distance.
Scooping up amazing rocks was fun first as a first time treasure hunter! I was there July 24, 2025. It was about 60° with a breeze (which held the biting flies off, mostly) and the waves of fridged water lapping quick were a bit aggressive that day. Hunting Yooperlite rocks was the goal but it was that goal for about 65 other people. Otherwise, the beach itself was clean and held opportunity to light a fire, relax and watch the incredible sunset.
When i saw it first, i thought it is a sea, and because i came from maritime industry, my background gave me this feeling of being on board of a ship. Amazing place to swim and to collect beautiful shells, colorfully stones. Amazing place to spend the day on the sand and enjoy the cold water swim and have the feeling that this is no salty water, fresh water!. i highly recommend to visit Grand Marais and to visit this particular beach.
Nice place for rock hunting and swimming. Well kept. Plenty of space. The beach is a bit of a walk from the parking lot. Dog friendly.
