My son and I took an evening jog through downtown and decided to hit the river walk. It's was so beautiful, we caught the sunset at the perfect time. The trail was clear and open. The walks grass was lush, trimmed and full of wild rabbits of all sizes. It sure is nice to get back outside...
Barren-no facilities on South end entrance. Places to picnic but not BBQ.
This a 2.25 mile flat wide paved path north from The Landing in St Joe to Heritage ballpark for no motorized use. The path winds along the Missouri River past the Remington Nature Center and Riverboat Casino. So about 4 to 4.5 miles to travel for a round trip. It would better if there was a public restroom someplace. Parts are being regraded right now, but it doesn't affect the path. There is a thin layer of silt over the path in places from flooding, but it does not affect cycling or walking.
We were staying at the St Jo Frontier Casino and walked this trail early one morning. The trail is concrete and about 6 feet wide. It can easily accommodate 2 people abreast and allow for bikes or runners to pass. It’s a really lovely place right alongside the Missouri River. We walked from the casino toward the nature center then south. We ended right under the double decker highway, about 1 1/2 miles. There is graffiti all over the small amphitheater under that highway and trash everywhere. The trail itself is very nice, but there is trash along the way and all signs are overgrown with weeds. There was a monument on the side that was so covered in weeds, we were unable to read it. Several picnic areas were also completely obscured by weeds. The grass is cut, but weeds are left around all structures. There was trash strewn around the wooden river overlook that looked more than several days old. Unfortunately this beautiful area has not been maintained well and reflects badly on this town.
Walk and hammock here often and it’s very peaceful! Never too busy and the nature center is right there next to the trail / river!
