We stopped in for lunch on a Thursday afternoon at about 11:45am. The restaurant wasn’t crowded and seemed to be well staffed. Parking was not an issue either. Being that the restaurant is first a BBQ restaurant, we ordered chopped pork BBQ sandwiches with fries and green beans. The fries and green beans were good and hot. The BBQ was neither. At best the BBQ meat was warm, slightly above room temperature is probably a better description of it. Next, and worse than the temperature, the meat was absolutely swimming in a sauce that really had no taste to it. My first impression was that it was canned, but a waitress assured me they smoked their own meat. She should have blamed it on a can, it was that bad. The best way to describe it was sauce with meat, as opposed to meat with sauce. If I ever go back I won’t consider the chopped pork, which defeats the purpose of going to a BBQ restaurant.
Overall it was decent. Ribs were too saucy couldn't really taste the meat, corn on the cob was a bit dry. Catfish was overcooked in my opinion but the service and environment were good and pleasant.
Stopped in for our first visit since moving to this area a few weeks ago. I went for the chopped pork plate with baked beans, corn on the cob, and Brunswick stew. The pork comes pre-sauced, fyi. Not bad flavor either. The only addition available at the table is hot sauce and maybe a ketchup. Baked beans were pretty good as was the stew. Corn needs some work though; it tasted and looked like it had been sitting for a while. Sweet tea is good also. The local rumor is that the BBQ isn't cooked onsite. No idea if that is true or not. ??????? place is always busy though, so you know it's a local favorite. Will probably try the ribs next time.
I enjoyed the barbecue plate today. However what stands out is the Brunswick stew which is excellent. I also enjoyed the coleslaw. The wait staff was attentive and gave good service. The only thing is, it's a very loud place and it's very hard to hold any kind of normal conversation. That being said it was the height of the lunch hour and they were packed out. Understandable, since it's a very small place. Overall I would return. If you're in LaGrange and you want barbecue, you gotta try it.
New. management has really upscaled this place since being here. The restaurant just looks clean from top to bottom! New menus! And as always, great tasting food! The Super Q BBQ sandwich was more than enough to fill me up! And the baked beans tasted great!
