New Sang Chong Market

Two stars because the shopping center is a construction nightmare with little to no progress happening towards completion. The market itself is well stocked, in particular the fish/seafood. A bit lacking on the beef portion of the meat market. Excellent produce. Sep 2023 update. The construction is almost done and is it psychological but does the store look cleaner and the employees happy? Regardless I'm really falling in love with this place. If you shop at Safeway, Walmart, etc. be ready for a different experience. Visit Asia without a passport!

My neighborhood Asian market. Fresh veggies and all the Asian sauces or spices you may need. Good prices for local store. Good size meat counter and seafood section. This market also has a food deli for your bbq or roasted meat needs.

Well stocked. The fresh seafood market is really clean and surprisingly you can buy fresh fish and they can fry the fish for you immediately. (On request. There is additional cost)

Busy on the weekdays and chaotic on the weekends, New sang chong caters to the oakland san Lorenzo and san leandro community that is looking for a safe and relatively clean place to shop for groceries. As with most if not all Asian supermarkets, it has it all. Fresh seafood, meat counter, Chinese BBQ, small bakery etc. There's a very good selection but the store is too packed. There's an empty space next door where the Ace hardware used to be but they haven't expanded into it. It would help with the congestion.. Prices are low to moderate. The store gets busy and fresh food items turn around quickly. Fresh fruit is sold outside in front of the store and there is a large selection. The whole complex is being remodeled and updated restaurants are opening. There is a chinese seafood restaurant right next door. If you like to eat where the locals eat and perhaps shop where the locals shop, give new san chong a try.

Their chicken is a couple of dollars more expensive than other places I’ve been too. And I didn’t get what I wanted. I got the soya chicken but I wanted the ginger sauce instead of the soy sauce. Same price but they said no. I’ll skip this place from now on.
