I tried this place twice just to see if it was as good as the first visit. This place is located on the border of Donna and Weslaco I believe Victoria St. Anyways food come with complementry soup , the first time it had one piece of firm fish, second time smaller pieces and a bit mushy. Broth has good flavor. First time I had the fried fish and shrimp $13.99 so did Dad, second time Dad had the same, I had the same again but with fried oysters $13.99. I also added a Shrimp Cocktail $9.99 large shrimp on the rim of the dish filled with a delicious sauce with pico. What I really like about this place is everything tastes fresh!! But not only that!! Everything fried is fried to perfection!! Golden perfect both times!! You can tell the fry oil is clean, there is no fry oil taste, just seafood done right! Plus, I liked that the shrimp is breaded and the fish battered. Kudos for that. They run promotions on certain days, where they give you extra portions. I really liked this place.
There are always a lot of options here, but when I'm in town and visit the Lighthouse, there's only one thing I go for, and that's the fried fish. With Basa or Swai it's sometimes called. It's tender and delicious, very lightly battered. Super crisp and goes great with Tartar sauce or cocktail sauce. I visit at least once, every time I'm in the valley. Definitely a wonderful experience! Mr. Martin the owner is always a wonderful host!
In response to owners reply: I specifically asked the waiter if they were serving Talipia firstly and Basa (Pangasius bocourti), as it is commonly referred to, is a species of primarily freshwater-dwelling catfish in the shark-catfish family, Pangasiidae, native to the Mekong and Chao Phraya river basins of Mainland Southeast Asia. Here's the POS May 26 LIGHTHOUSE SEAFOOD MAR DONNA TX 4490 $30.38 Lastly why not use Gulf shrimp and support your local fishing industry? Neighborhood seafood place with some decent offerings. Let me start by saying that the service was friendly and we appreciated that. My critique is this: Shrimp was way over fried. I asked what type of fish they were serving, and I made clear that I was only going to order USA farm raised catfish. The server said it was and said it was "Basa." It is actually a catfish, but from Vietnam. I am pretty sure that the shrimp are from Southeast Asia as well. I have zero trust in seafood from that area of the world. The fish tasted fine and was done better than the shrimp. The shrimp soup looked great, but again, I won't be eating there again. Not supporting our US fisheries when they are so close to the Gulf is shameful!
Very peaceful little fish restaurant. The food was delicious, my two toddlers loved it too! The fish was lightly fried and with the best crunch! The staff was very kind and attentive too. Will definitely come again with all my family.
Best fish and shrimp plate I've ever had. The appetizer salsa was so delicious too. My toddlers loved the food too, and their rice! Thank you for a wonderful experience!
