La Luz Bakery

I have tried tamales from other places and by far La Luz is the best restaurant/ store for tamales around a 30-mile radius. People are very helpful and nice. But if you trying to snag some you best get there very early because they sell out fast. They have two convenient locations one in Round Lake by the metro station and the other in Mundelein. Go check em out. They have other treats as well.

There's always something delicious to eat here. The smells alone are amazing. The prices are great and the people there are patient and answer any questions you have. It's not just a bakery....get the tamales! So good!

Figured I’d give them a shot for a birthday cake this year, and I couldn’t be happier! Their tres leches cakes are exceptional. They are all beautifully decorated. Flavor was top notch. These cakes are super fresh, and the crumb was great! (The birthday girl loved it too, which is the opinion that matters most!) Don’t let the $35-$40 price tag scare you off. These cakes are massive, and can serve a nice crowd. Worth every penny, especially when compared to a $30 store bought tres leches cake of similar size. They offer smaller and more affordable tres leches cakes as well, which are easier on the wallet if you’re working with a tight budget. Service was great too, which is always a plus. I can tell they take a lot of pride in their work here. Don’t pass on this local gem!

I ordered my cake from La Luz after having tasted their Tres Leches cake for my nephew's birthday over the summer. It was one of the best Tres Leches cakes I've tasted. Though Round Lake is quite the drive from Rolling Meadows, I knew it'd be worth it. I ordered it 2 weeks in advance, and the owner who took my order was very polite, patient, and took all my details. I did have a complaint after attempting to get a question answered and being placed on long holds twice, with no follow up by a younger employee, but the owner resolved the matter and was super understanding which I appreciated. The cake turned out so beautiful, we were VERY happy and our guests said it was super tasty! Thank you very much!

Best Tamales around. Very friendly staff. The dinosaur sized pork rinds were warm, salty, and crispy. This place also has amazing pastries.
