Bocca Café

The best Nanaimo bar we had in Nanaimo by far!! I am not a usual fan of Nanaimo bars however Bocca knocks it out of the park both with flavour and presentation. They have plenty of flavours to choose from. I definitely would recommend trying the sampler they offer as its a great way to get a taste of most of their flavours. I think their customer service could definitely use some improvements (we visited this location twice and both times did not have a great experience) however since we were just stopping in to take out, we accepted that it was likely part of their usual operations.

Bocca is a simply darling little shop. I ordered the strawberry matcha iced latte and it was super delicious and photo worthy. May gave me wonderful service. She was super friendly and knowledgeable, running the cash and making the drinks quickly. There is all sorts of local art and jewellery for sale in there which makes it feel extra homey and cute.

It was on my list to try because I saw in the reviews that they offered vegan and gluten-free options. I picked up a vegan Nanaimo bar to go. I was surprised to see there was no indication of anything being gluten-free, even though all of their Nanaimo bars apparently are and it it clearly indicated on their outside sign they have vegan and gluten free options. On my way out, I asked the cashier if they had gluten-free bread in case I wanted to come back another time for a sandwich, and the only answer I got was a simple “no.” That was disappointing. But the worst part was when I took my first bite of the Nanaimo bar at home. It had a very strong taste of old cupboard. It was inedible and honestly disgusting. I spit it out and threw it away. That’s when I saw the bottom which looks really old. Clearly the vegan one was very old and doesn’t sell well, but please either keep better track of older inventory or stop selling items that don’t move. The way you do anything is the way you do everything. I would never go back.

i got nanaimo bar and nanaimo bar latte. nanaimo latte tasted nutty but was warm, tasty and cozy. not really like a nanaimo bar. nanaimo bar was huge serving size, delicious though but nothing incredible.

Tried Nanaimo bars here for the first time and all flavours were amazing! Get a Chai latte and try them all at Bocca Cafe.
